Introducing Amanda Phoon Nguyen - a proud member of the Class of 2006.

During her time at Lauriston, Amanda was part of several committees, a member of the hockey team, band and drama club, and was awarded House colors and the Duke of Edinburgh Gold award when she was in Year 12.

After Lauriston, Amanda completed a Bachelor of Dental Science degree at the University of Melbourne, before completing her specialist training in Oral Medicine at the UWA Dental School, University of Western Australia. Before undertaking specialist training, Amanda served in the Royal Australian Navy as a Dental officer and worked in both public and private practice as a dentist.

Besides her clinical work, Amanda’s research interests include oral mucosal disorders, orofacial pain, temporomandibular disorders and paediatric oral medicine. She is passionate about her specialty, and uses many platforms to educate and raise awareness for her field. She also enjoys lecturing and public speaking. Amanda has won several awards and grants for her work, peer review and community projects.

Amanda is heavily involved in the dental community, and is Treasurer of the Australian Dental Association (WA) and International Association for Dental Research (Perth region). She is also Editor of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. She holds current positions on several other committees, including as Board Director of the Jaye Radisich Foundation. In her spare time, she actively volunteers for the Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Women in Dentistry Healing Smiles program for domestic violence victims.
