Class of 2019
Thursday, 17 September 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted those within our community and people throughout the world, in many different ways.  We want to remind one group in our community, that they haven't been forgotten!  The Class of 2019!

2020, for this cohort, was to be the start of a new and broad chapter - commencing university studies, some travelling the world, others working and earning salaries, embarking on internships or expat opportunities, getting licences and taking hold of that new level of independence of finally becoming adults.  But for this cohort, a lot of these plans have had to be put on hold, completely modified.  And they'll never really experience the normal 'firsts' in the manner to which they were initially intended.  From the looks of it though, this weird and distorted year hasn't stopped these young adult women from going forth and seeking alternative ways to see this year through!

We have recently heard from two graduates of the Class of 2019 - Molly Phillips and Charlotte Roberts.  What has struck us in a profound way, is the fact that despite the challenges they have been faced with, these girls, and their peers, have just 'got on with it'!

Charlotte (pictured right) is doing a bachelor of music in jazz at the Victorian College of the Arts, and has told us that choir over Zoom is a super-weird experience!  And Molly (pictured left), who was intending to travel during a gap year, has ended up working full time with her mum which has kept her nice and busy, and because they're in the Veterinary Wholesale business, they are classified as essential workers so not much has changed for them with regards to restrictions.

Charlotte said that this year is not exactly what they thought it would be, but it makes it a lot more bearable that they're all experiencing it together, learning and growing at the same pace, albeit on their own.

Charlotte and Molly have both said that they miss their friends and that whilst regular catch ups over Zoom means that they still feel connected, both of them are looking forward to the day when they can all get together again, in person, and give each other a hug!

We are thinking of you Class of 2019!
