We recently connected with Linda Grace, who sends her regards to her peers from Class of 1971.  Unfortunately Linda (pictured with her daughter Emilie) couldn't get down to Melbourne to attend the 50 Year Reunion held at Leonda, but she provided us with an update to share.  Linda writes:

Life is good. Health abounds. I live in Brunswick Heads Northern NSW, but do get to Melbourne quite often as I have 2 grandchildren down there. It's always a pleasure to come back to visit as it's such a lovely city and I have very fond memories of Victoria.  I left in the 1980s to live in Brunswick Heads and the Byron Bay Area. I left this area in the late 90s and ventured off to India and then New York to return and set up home in Peregian beach on the Sunshine Coast.

But my heart and friends are here on the north coast of NSW so I returned some 9 years ago.

I now live alone with my gorgeous dog Bertie, and enjoy a very easy, though adventurous life. Lots of travel (well there was!). I must say, I can’t wait for the end of this pandemic so we can start moving about the planet again. I am sure that applies to many of us.

Through my career the constant has been spirituality and I am still deeply involved with meditation, psychotherapy and the arts. Something I can never retire from, it's a lifetime project. I am now retired from working however and really enjoy the space to play and create, be that in the garden or at my easel. If any of you know Brunswick Heads it is also an extremely beautiful place with stunning beaches and a river. So there is lots to do.

Philanthropy is also important. I love the giving back. We have a number of issues in this region especially for disadvantaged women. There are many creative people involved in a number of community actions to address homelessness and displacement of women of all age groups in our shire. Anything to do with women’s empowerment is one of my passions. so it’s lovely to work in amongst these groups who find very clever solutions to a huge swell of need. I do love creativity in all it’s forms. There are some incredible people in this area.

I had 2 children. One of them my daughter Emilie was recently a guest teacher at Lauriston. She is a poet, and came in to teach her art as she does at many schools and institutions across Australia. Both of us were touched by this. She wondered about my footprints at the school and who I might have been there. I remember quite an unhappy girl who really tried her best to fit into a world that for her, was a square peg in a round hole.

Thank goodness for the art room and sport. Occasionally I stumble across an ex Lauriston girl and we do 'whoop' in laughter at some of our memories. I am also very grateful my parents who started out very working class, found a way to send me there. What an incredible gift as being in such a school really opened my eyes and heart to a whole other way of being. I am very grateful for that.

I flicker across some of the names invited to our 50 Year Reunion and memories swell up. Friends and teenage confidants are remembered. To any who may have a place in their hearts for me I say a big "hullo".

I hope the luncheon is a fabulous day and I truly wish I could be there to reconnect as we all are now so much older and also wiser.

I do hope your journeys from then to now have been a wonderful weaving of compassion, joy, laughter and tears, as well as an understanding of life’s many layers and complexities.

Maybe I can get to next reunion. I would like that!

With much love,

Linda Grace (Moyle, 1971)
